Summer : A Tale of two trees

Yesterday the first pre-monsoon showers hit us. The temperature dropped a whopping 10 deg C in a single day. We had the air cooler on till the previous night. Yesterday night, we had to reduce the speed of our ceiling fan. What a contrast!. As the hottest summer in the past 5 years came to an end, I felt the need to pen my observations and thoughts.

The Malabar Banded Peacock belongs to one of the spectacular family of butterflies. They have amazing iridescent colors and hues. Some of the species look green or blue depending upon the viewing angle. Thanks to this amazing camouflage, these butterflies have survived over a centuries. Otherwise it is not hard to miss the Papilio Buddha.

One fine morning, India woke up to the news of famous Bollywood stars involved in killing of the Black Buck and the Chinkara. With this news, the nation not only came to know about the two unique endangered animals but also about the protagonists for nature – the Bishnois.
